| Pick Colors |
WebSite Color PickerIntroduction Color is an important factor in determining the look and feel of your website. First impressions of your site are based on a number of factors: color is among the most important. Picking colors for your website can be an uncertain and sometimes frustrating process. When you want to evaluate a variety of color combinations, manually changing the color attributes of the HTML <BODY> tag can be time-consuming and tedious. This "Website Color Picker" will help you evaluate color combinations quickly and easily. It's built with JavaScript, and can be used with either Navigator 3 (and up) or Internet Explorer 4 (and up). It works equally well on MacOS or Windows. How It Works Using the "Website Color Picker", you can experiment with different colors for BGCOLOR, TEXT color, LINK color and VLINK color. Each of these attributes has its own section in the "picker" window, which appears on the left side of your computer screen. After deciding which attribute you want to set, click a color swatch in the appropriate section of the left window and see the color applied immediately to the chosen attribute in the right window. A text box at the top of each section shows the current color for the designated attribute. This text box can also be used to manually enter hexadecimal color values which are not included in the color swatches. After entering a color value manually, click "select it" to see the results. Although the color swatches are geared to creating websites with light background colors and darker text and link colors, you can use the text input boxes to mix and match colors from the different sections of the "picker" window. Use your favorite CLUT (color look up table) to choose colors you want to evaluate, or just noodle around with random hexadecimal color codes. It won't break the "Website Color Picker". The most useful color utility I've found on the web is VisibOne, which provides a very nicely organized point-and-click color chart organized by hue. For basic color on the web, and some dynamite links, start with Lynda Weinman's website. Thanks for Using the "Website Color Picker" If you find it useful, please e-mail me with your comments. --John Holme go to the "Website Color Picker" |
