Portera/Exigen: Web Application Developer

Utilizing JDK 1.3, JavaServer Pages 1.2 and Servlets 2.3, I programmed web-tier functionality (including JSPs and their supporting Java classes) using Tomcat on Apache in a Solaris environment with an Oracle back-end. Development tools include Homesite, NetBeans, vi, Perforce. Specific design and development tasks included the following:

  • a user-editable interface which tracks employee utilization on a week-by-week basis;
  • interfaces to schedule automatic report generation and distribute the resulting reports via email;
  • an "estimated time to completion" editor which uses budgeted and actual hours to calculate the time remaining on a task (Javascript);
  • a demonstration portlet accessing application data via the IBM Websphere Portal Server;
  • a 5-screen "wizard" enabling users to build custom reports to access data within the application.

I conducted a major overhaul of the Javascript and HTML appearing on over 200 JSPs, and implemented application-wide programming standards which:

  • improved performance of the JSP pages (especially download times);
  • simplified the Javascript used to support the UI;
  • replaced HTML and Javascript elements requiring browser-specific work-arounds;
  • support Internet Explorer 4+ and Netscape 4+ on Windows, Mac and Solaris platforms.

CREST: Web Production Specialist

The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology built websites for organizations in the renewable energy field. At CREST I utilized Photoshop, Illustrator, ImageReady and DeBabelizer to design and produce graphical elements, and text editors (Homesite, BBEdit) to write Javascript and HTML. I worked closely with clients to develop information and visual designs which would best represent the spirit and substance of their organizations.

Freelance Web Designer & Developer

Responsibilities included information design, visual design and production (Photoshop, Illustrator, ImageReady, DeBabelizer), HTML production (Homesite, HotDog Pro, BBEdit, NetObjects Fusion) and Javascript programming. My portfolio is online at http://www.digitdesigns.com/Folio/folio.htm
